We aren’t always successful in the projects we choose to fund. Sometimes we support projects that, for whatever reason—lack of commitment, lack of other funding, unrealistic goals, personal circumstances—don’t come to fruition.

In this section we share a sampling of the projects that didn’t work out. They
were great ideas at the time we funded them, and they remain great ideas. We
still wish they were more than ideas.

If there’s anything we’ve learned from our failures, it’s that we can’t let them
bog us down—and we can’t let them sour us on the next great idea, because
it is often right there, waiting to be discovered and supported.
