Targum Shlishi Supports Creation of JTA Mobile Website

May 24, 2010 – Targum Shlishi is supporting an initiative of the JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency), the global news service of the Jewish people, to create a mobile version of the JTA website (www.jta.org) that will be compatible with all smartphones and mobile devices.

With more than 4.1 billion mobile subscribers worldwide (277 million in the United States alone), and 57 million Americans regularly accessing the mobile web, mobile devices are quickly becoming the primary interface to the Internet. Targum Shlishi is providing JTA with the necessary support to expand its presence with a newly designed mobile website to meet the needs of this changing market.

“JTA has always been about getting important news to the Jewish community as quickly and directly as technology allows,” explains Ami Eden, JTA’s editor-in-chief. “Ninety years ago, it was the telegraph. Today, it’s the mobile phone. The upcoming mobile JTA website—featuring breaking news, original features, and inside analysis—will be JTA’s latest way of delivering the news community leaders need to make informed decisions about philanthropy and advocacy, and for the whole community to stay connected to the global Jewish experience.”

Targum Shlishi’s grant will support the design and production of the unique JTA mobile website, providing a richer user interface on all smartphones and mobile devices. The mobile website is expected to launch in summer 2010.

“Targum Shlishi has long promoted and supported the use of technology to enhance an organization’s ability to reach its audience,” notes Aryeh Rubin, founder and director of Targum Shlishi. “In the past we were early in supporting the creation of Web sites by small nonprofits, in order to give them an online presence. The grant to JTA to support its mobile website is a natural extension of our belief the importance of appropriately using available technology to fulfill one’s mission.”
